We are here and alive,

Let us make a life for ourselves,
Among our own kind,
And end our rebellion,
Against destiny.
Peace and prosperity forever!

— The Longtreader Command's creed, Ember Rising

The Longtreader Command is an organization established by Garten Longtreader to oversee the rabbit inhabitants of Akolan. The group's members are derisively referred to as Wrongtreaders by the Resistance. They may also be called inwallers.

History[]

Background[]

The Longtreader Command was first created by Garten Longtreader, presumably with Morbin Blackhawk's consent. The Longtreader Command acted as "peace officers" for Morbin, harrying out those causers that sought to give trouble to their slavers and keeping the whole rabbit population of Akolan in line. Because of this, Morbin removed the raptor sentinels that had presumably once watched over the city to ensure Morbin's peace, leaving the rabbits at the Longtreader Command in virtual control of Akolan, but always under his watchful eye and control of Morbin, to which the Longtreaders loyally submitted.

Whatever order Morbin Blackhawk would hand down to them they would obey without question, even if it meant persecuting and doing cruelty to their fellow rabbits. Indeed, many among the Longtreader officers relished such villainy, becoming infamous among Akolan's denizens. Longtreader Command also imposed the Order of Utility, a set of rules that, among other things, forbade any assistance to older, more sickly rabbits.

Ember Rising[]

These are the leaders of Akolan. A cold, heartless bureaucrat and a twisted fanatic.

While in the Akolan jail in the Sixth District, Heather Longtreader learned of the Longtreader Command from Hadley after arriving in Akolan and being captured by some Longtreader officers. He told her of the cruelty of the officers Vitton and Long, and of how it was rumored that The Commandant was Garten's own brother. This is not true.

Not long afterwards, Longtreader guards came for her, and brought her to the Commandant, who told her of the "peace and prosperity" under which they lived, and how the Longtreader Command's duty was to keep that "peace" for Morbin by keeping all others solely obedient to his will.

When Heather finds her parents, Whittle and Sween Longtreader, living in the Fourth District of Akolan, she learns more from them about the Longtreader Command, of how they had given up being "outwallers" to live a life of relative ease in Sixth District, where they felt less like slaves, although they were even more so. She finds that her brother, Jacket Longtreader, is very much influenced by the "Wrongtreaders". He is sadly unaware of the trickery of Captain Vitton. Jacks, as he was nicknamed, was chosen to be part of the food going to Morbins table, hidden as a "special journey".

During this time, Heather meets the resistance and Harmony who later leads her to the The Tunneler. He is very unwell, and Heather gave him some of Emma's tonic, restraining from giving him Aunt Jone's mix as she wanted to be on "firmer ground". The Tunneler shows her the secret 7th district, and Heather is amazed at the plot that the resistance had made.

After Jacks informed on Whittle and Heather for being out after curfew, the Longtreader Command came and captured Heather and Sween, although they could not find Whittle. Vitton attempted to torture the two. Just as Vitton was about to kill Heather, he was interrupted by the Commandant arriving with five new prisoners. Soon after, Lieutenant Anders of the Longtreader Command arrived with intelligence concerning the Seventh District. The Commandant instructs Vitton to torture the prisoners and then they will see about this threat. However, the five prisoners (among them Whittle and Dote) escaped, prevented Vitton from killing Heather, and fought the officers of the Longtreader Command. After Whittle killed Vitton, Dote showed Heather that the Commandant had his sword pressed against Anders' neck. Whittle informed Heather that the Commandant's cold evil was a ruse, and he was actually an agent of the Seventh District.

Ember's End[]

Causers and insurrectionists! Your doom is near. Meanwhile, do not try to enter District Six. The inwallers want no part of your rebellion and disease. If you attack, we will be forced to destroy you.

A buck who had helped conduct the attack on Harbone Citadel, when questioned by Wilfred Longtreader, revealed that he was a member of the Longtreader Command in Akolan.

Whittle Longtreader, the newly named Tunneler, led many inhabitants of the Seventh District to invite the Wrongtreaders to join them. Dote expressed displeasure at this, calling them 'Morbin's pets', but Whittle said that they were rabbits, and deserved a chance for freedom. Sween added that, while it may be hard, it was always worthwhile to forgive. Dote reluctantly agreed, though he expressed doubt that many inwallers would accept the offer. When they arrived at the entrance to District Six, where the Wrongtreaders lived, their way was barred by Captain Tram and several others members of the Longtreader Command. Those with Tram were afraid that Whittle and his band were lepers, and so warned them not to come closer. Tram also told them that the inwallers did not want a part of their rebellion, and after being shown the stones ordered the inwallers under his command to fire arrows at Whittle's band. The Commandant arrived, told Tram to let Whittle's band into District Six, and to accept their offer of freedom in the Seventh District. While many Wrongtreaders hurried back inside the Sixth District toward their families, some joined Tram in barring Whittle's way. Whittle apologized before hitting Tram over the head with his satchel of stones.

During the siege of First Warren, many raptors arrived to First Warren, some bearing Longtreader Command members on their backs. The uniformed soldiers jumped off the birds and onto the rooftops, and battled the city's loyal rabbits. Heather fumed at the preymarks around their necks.
