Biography[]

The Wreck and Rise of Whitson Mariner[]

We'll never survive.

After Vanguard is wrecked at the hands of Captain Grimble, King Whitson Mariner takes a skeleton crew aboard Steadfast to meet Grimble's ship, Desolation. Jake Able, who is part of the crew, expresses doubt over the success of their journey, prompting Whitson to "take Jake's name." Not long after, however, Jake vows never to surrender to Captain Grimble.

Later, Jake grabs Lander as the prince, his mother, Massie Burnson, and Galt jump on board Steadfast.

As Desolation sails into view, Jake and several others swim for the shore of an island, where survivors of Vanguard's wreck are standing. Before long, the crews of Steadfast and Desolation are locked in a furious battle. When Captain Grimble's sailors discovered a group of blastpowder barrels aboard the supposedly abandoned Steadfast, many of them abandoned ship and swam to shore.

The barrels, however, were revealed to be a hoax, and Commander Usher resolved to lead his crew back into the fight upon Steadfast. When Queen Lillie ordered them to surrender, Usher merely laughed. Luckily, more of Lillie's allies, including Jake Able, arrived, forcing Grimble's supporters to remain on shore.

Personality and traits[]

I'll not drop you, Your Highness! And they'll not drop me.

Though initially Jake Able was fearful for his life in the midst of possible danger, he soon proved to later be a strong, brave, and capable buck. He was fiercely loyal to his king, queen, and prince.
