Initiation was a rite of passage at Cloud Mountain for newcomers to the community. It was related to the law of initiates, which was designed to insure that spies could not easily infiltrate the community and learn its secrets.

Heather and Picket Longtreader received their initiation in Lighthall, due in part to their unique situation. As members of the Longtreader family, they shared blood with key players in the account of King Jupiter and the Cause. Lord Rake and their uncle Wilfred Longtreader thus took it upon themselves to explain, in brief, some of the history of the fallen king and the role of their traitor uncle, Garten Longtreader.
