The G reen Ember Archer series[1] is a spin-off series of The Green Ember series, authored by S. D. Smith and illustrated by Zach Franzen. They are published by Story Warren, LLC.
The series falls under the banner of A Green Ember Story.
About[]
The series follows the adventures of Jo Shanks, a character introduced in The Green Ember who became more prominent during Ember Falls. The first installment, The Last Archer, takes place during the events of The Green Ember. Its initial sequel, The First Fowler, picks up in an interval between the early chapters of Ember Falls. The Archer's Cup takes place during Ember Rising, following Jo and several companions as they visit Blackstone Citadel.
The idea of telling a story focused on Jo Shanks had been in S.D. Smith's mind prior to the publication of Ember Rising. When it was determined that Ember Rising would not be ready for publishing by Christmas of 2017, S.D. Smith decided to write a short book about Jo Shanks. The Last Archer was completed and published in December 2017, but as a result of the short period in which this took place it was not possible for Zach Franzen to create interior illustrations. The subsequent Green Ember Archer books were thus not illustrated either, though S.D. Smith has suggested that this might change with future editions.[2]
S.D. Smith has also stated that he considers Ember's End as a conclusion to Green Ember Archer as well as The Green Ember. This is demonstrated by the presence of Green Ember Archer characters in that book, as well as Jo Shanks being one of the point of view characters.[3]
