Elska and her brother Lukan lost their mother to the Lords of Prey, and their father dies during the Attack on Halfwind Citadel by Morbin Blackhawk's wolves. The two end up in Halfwind's hospital under the care of Heather Longtreader, who tries to comfort Elska in her grief and fear. Elska, remembering well the deaths of both her parents, refuses to be comforted, and resolves never to go outside again for fear of being carried off.

Elska is an innocent young doe, and has been very scared of the Lords of Prey since they killed her parents.
