The Blue Moss Hills were the first known home of rabbitkind after Flint and Fay departed Immovable Mountain.

History[]

Ancient times[]

The Blue Moss Hills were visible from Immovable Mountain, and so named because they were believed to be covered in a species of blue moss. However, after the Leaping occurred, the Leapers discovered that blue color came not from moss, but from Firstflower, which they ate. The plant's benefits to body and mind greatly benefitted rabbitkind, and they established a society in the Blue Moss Hills with Flint as their first king. Unfortunately, this glorious peace would not endure, as Firstfoe appeared to trouble rabbitkind and bring about its near ruin.

Firstfoe was eventually defeated, and the rabbits saved, by Flint wielding the starsword, which he is presumed to have received or made while in the area of Blue Moss Hills. However, Flint himself fell as a result of the sword's corrupting influence, and the rabbits chose to abandon their homeland. The Trek from Blue Moss Hills thus began, with the rabbits who embarked on it becoming known as the Trekkers. Leaving the Blue Moss Hills, they journeyed through the Mistenlands and eventually reached Golden Coast, where they established a new homeland.

Prince Lander & the Dragon War[]

Prince Lander Whitson recalled the Blue Moss Hills as he pondered the mythology of rabbitkind, particularly as it related to the Drekkers.

Ember Falls[]

The Blue Moss Hills were mentioned in the song of the votaries.

Ember Rising[]

Heather Longtreader mentioned the Blue Moss Hills, describing her father's smile at being reunited with her as bright, like the first dawn Flint saw on Blue Moss Hills.

Ember's End[]

Picket notes that the Seven Standing Stones remind them of when the Leapers leapt from Immovable Mountain to Blue Moss Hills over seven stones. Missy Dreft, when questioned about the nature of Firstflower, explained the plant's history—so far as she knew it—to Emma and her companions, saying that what Flint and Fay thought was blue moss was actually Firstflower. The Pilgrim later brought Firstflower seeds to First Warren, presumably having traveled to the Blue Moss Hills in search of them or else finding them in some other location.

Smalls mentioned Blue Moss Hills to Heather, in response to her comparing the Tomb of Lander's Dragons to Immovable Mountain, saying that if it caved in he feared they would not find standing stones to Blue Moss Hills but instead die.
