Why, my dear girl, True Blue is our long-lost source of understanding and ascension. Your Royal Highness, True Blue is Firstflower. It is our path of life.

— Missy Dreft to Emma Joveson, , Ember's End, pg. 161

Firstflower, also known as True Blue, is a life-giving, healing, and rejuvenating blue flower that first grew on the Blue Moss Hills.

History[]

Origins[]

Flint and Fay discovered Firstflower upon making the first Leaping and escaping Immovable Mountain.

Ember Falls[]

Jone Wissel was intent on creating a tonic from firstflower, and was caught pilfering from Prester Kells' store of it at Halfwind Citadel; Heather Longtreader afterward discovered Jone's tonic made from the flower in the purse Aunt Jone left with her. Aunt Jone subsequently used all the firstflower she had left to save the life of Wilfred Longtreader, who had suffered wounds when a party of wolves attacked and seemingly killed Smalden Joveson and his escorts on their way to Kingston Citadel.

Ember's End[]

Smalls and Aunt Jone's Tonic EE

Smalls finds Jone Wissel's tonic of Firstflower.

Having used the last of her tonic to save the life of Wilfred Longtreader, when Jone arrived in First Warren (right before the Siege of First Warren), she didn't have any to lend to Emma, who wanted to use it during the siege. Prior to Jone's arrival, Emma had learned the history of Firstflower from the proprietor of an apothecary in First Warren and had discovered that it was purported to grant its consumer long life and remarkable healing.

Heather, however, still had Jone's tonic when she was cast into Tomb of Lander's Dragons by Garten Longtreader. There, she found Smalls, alive, but weak. She, weak herself, used both Jone's tonic and a tonic Emma had made on Smalls right before becoming unconscious. Smalls later awoke, fully healed by Jone's tonic, and administered it to Heather, who also awoke, completely cured of her wound.

Later, the Pilgrim arrived in First Warren, bearing the healing flower. After the defeat of Morbin Blackhawk and the coming of the Mending, the flower was used to heal the wounded soldiers who fought in the War for All Natalia. It was then sown and grown in abundance, being infused in tea and other foods, yielding abundant health and hinting at eternal life for rabbits.
